Free gift cards?  For real?

Yes, but it’s not a simple as it sounds.  Given the economy, and the fact that we are moving into the biggest gift giving season of the year, many people are looking for cheap, or better yet free, gifts.

Giving a gift card has been a favorite idea for years, but how cool would it be to obtain one for free?  After all, it’s the thought that counts, right?

So, how does one go about getting their hands on a card that didn’t cost them anything?  Well, first of all, there is a cost involved, but it’s your time and effort.  And you might want to set up a secondary email address for yourself.  You know, a free one!  There are all kinds of services online, so I’m guessing I don’t need to tell you how to do that part of the equation.

So, what do you need to do to obtain one of these freebie cards?  Pay attention when you’re surfing the net.  There are ads everywhere, but we tend to ignore them.   If you see an advertisement for a retailer offering a promotional card, check it out!  If they’re just asking for an email address, use that spam address you set up, and give them your info.  Personally, I wouldn’t give out my address or phone number, but that is up to you.  How worthwhile is that card to you?  You might be willing to put up with more junk mail to obtain it or to be irritated even farther by telemarketers

You can also join a site like mypoints.com.  It’s free to join, and it will take a while before you gain enough points to get obtain gift cards, but hey, free is free!
